Want to create old-like films and animations? With this material, you can achieve the nostalgia.
Hand-animated film reel, you can get the feel of a realistic film reel as if you were playing it on TV in the past.
This material is made for a 4:3 screen, however you can scale it up to the resolution you currently work with: make sure the black borders of the film reel is stretched to the canvas or output frame.
What’s included:
- Film Reel animation.
- Auto Action for making your film
Recommendations:
- Color in your illustration/animation with color instead of black and white. This way, you can change it into black and white easier using the auto action.
- Use the auto action for blurring both the background and the cel/illustration. This gives it a more nostalgic, authentic look to the film, as if you reuploaded a 1930’s Disney short onto YouTube.
- Although there is a few translations in Japanese, you’d probably have to use a translation program as this material was created in English, so you’d probably not understand how the auto action would work.
AUTO ACTION INFORMATION:
- Black+White: Turns a layer into black and white, using the HSL adjustment layer.
- Blur (Cel): Blurs a layer that is supposed to be a cel.
- Blur (Background): Blurs a layer that is supposed to be the background.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:
- You don’t have to always use black and white as the main focus. Although this focuses mainly on black and white, you can have other styles, like 70’s for example. The auto action does not include any other stylistic choices so you may need to make your own auto actions to suit the style you want.
So get creating the nostalgic animation you dream of!
