M31、アンドロメダ銀河風に。直径22万光年。250万光年の彼方にある渦巻き銀河。その見かけの大きさは地球から見ても満月の5倍。
遠方にあって渦の腕部分が暗く見えにくいため、通常は月より小さくぼやけて見える。約40億年後に天の川銀河と衝突するといわれている。
