It is modeled after the Japanese Navy's Zero navigation target light.
When it is dropped from an aircraft and hits the surface of the sea, the carbide inside reacts with the water to produce acetylene gas, igniting the spark generated at the same time and emitting a strong light for more than 30 minutes.
It is used to indicate "here" on the sea surface at night, or to recognize lines on the sea surface by throwing multiple pieces.
日本海軍の零式航法目標灯をモデルにしています。
これは航空機から投下、海面に当たると中のカーバイドと水が反応してアセチレンガスが生成され、同時に発生した火種に引火、３０分以上強い光を放つ、というものです。
夜間、海面に「ここ」を示したり、複数個投じて海面に線を認識したりするためのものです。
