Brushes with character!

Update: Redid two tips, should work better now.  Thank you for your patience, my apologies.

I don't really know how to introduce these: I like my Original characters a lot, and thought it would be fun to make brushes based on them and their traits.  I ended up making a wide variety of tools and put a little extra effort into it since I was having some fun. :D

I'll talk a little about each character and how the brushes relate to them below.  Feel free to download them without reading, this is extra information in case you're curious how I used the brush or who these characters are.

Lettia is a sweet, gentle princess blessed by a unicorn to have healing powers.  While I wouldn't know how to heal an artwork, I do know how to make a very soft cloudy paint that blends gently into colors, so hopefully that works for your art instead.  If it is slow on your computer, turn off the spray function.

There is also the "Soft Line" for sketching & soft line art.  It has the texture of book paper, perfect for mimicking old classic fairy tale illustrations.  It can also be used to color.

Persephone, a teen problem-solver and anxious do-gooder.  She has a pencil that helps with planning, dark enough to shape the final lines of a sketch, & a paintbrush that gives a painterly feeling to shading.  The two brushes can make a soft, solid, or in-between look depending on their use. Experimentation is encouraged. :D

Naoko, teen troublemaker and awkward but honest gal.  The [Dark Marker] is meant to create dark, grungy lines, the kind you doodle on the side of a carboard box with a fat permanent marker.  Feel free to turn "multiply" off if it annoys you. Meanwhile, the contrasting [Sharp Line] gives a great range of line variation, much more expressive and dynamic.

Zaman Hadi, cranky wizard turned cranky ghost. A dedicated note taker in life, preferred a strong sleek fountain pen, thus the "Live Line".  Flexible, feel free to change thickness & angle to suit your hand.  Great for writing in your grimoire or lines with sharper corners.  (Microsoft Translate: The text in the drawing says "The next time we meet, I won't be so kind.")

The "Ghost line" is supposed to be the same pen, but 100 years older, and a little more ghostly.  It can be used as a pencil to sketch (and color if opacity & density is tweaked), or as a pen with more texture and character to it.

My apologies for the preview, I feel like I got lazy on this one.  Another wizard, Edgar is a generous young man with a charming personality.  Unfortunately, he has more going on underneath.  The paintbrush is a reflection of that, as it seems normal at first glance, but changes color with each stroke and has a marbled texture once tilted.  It's strange but fun. It works best for larger paintings.

Liam is a young office worker with a penchant for, uh, bad behavior.  The main pen is supposed to be based off a roller ball pen, but slightly more tempermental for more dynamic lines.  It gives varied lines without having to change its size often.  Turning off tilt will give more consistent weight.  It can also write some nice comic-style letters. (Microsoft Translate: "You kids like baseball, right?")

"Liam Underneath Pen" is the same pen, but with worse behavior.  It is a dual pen with 2 colors that changes dominant color based on tilt.  Feel free to adjust how the 2nd color appears (I have it set to "Darken" as default) or the size of the pen, especially if you do not have a tilt enabled tablet.   It is hard to hide what's underneath!

Last wizard of the pack is Victor, who travels around and preforms pest-control on evil spirits.  The focus of Victor's brushes are on the grains: he is a cowboy type of guy, rough around the edges, as are his brushes.  The "Ink Striker" is a bold pen that has more texture at smaller sizes.  The "Chalk" is grainy and great for rough coloring.

Ayumi is a ghost girl.  She's friendly, but enjoys being spooky and playing pranks on people.  I decided a "Scratchy Ink Nib" would be great for her.  The pen is based on an actual ink stain I made (oops) and then scanned in.  Thanks to that, the pen looks organic and looks great for hand hatching.  Works decently in monochrome mode as well.

Vivo is a bass gutairist with a showy personal style.  His pen is a multi-tool, as it can be used to draw, color, shade, sketch, or add effects depending on which options are selected.  Experimentation is encouraged!

The "Tone Flower" is based off his favorite textile print, the hibiscus flower.  It adds extra flavor to backgrounds.

Lastly, weird engineer Phil has loaned us his fountain pen to use.  It is based on old fountain pen illustrations found in classic newspaper comics, something Phil enjoys reading.  The pen is makes smooth, dynamic lines with round edges.  I also enjoy it for writing (Microsoft translate: "Eve, Lost key, sleeping on porch, ~Phil").

Thanks for having a look!  It's a bit of a weird idea to base a set of brushes on, but it was a lot of fun and I hope you have fun with them too if you download them. :)  I encourage you guys to make brushes based off your own characters too if you're interested.

Also, wow!  Thanks for all the downloads so far, that's a lot more than I expected. <3

everyone's here

Fixed two tips, Edgar Paint & Victor Ink Striker. They should work just as well. :)

Pixel art lover, game enthusiast, strange artist. I like making brushes because I find it fun! I don't like charging for my stuff unless I put a lot of effort into it, so most of my stuff is free. I just like sharing things with people :D
