A second border motif (brush and image material) based on a fresco from Pompeii.

This border motif is based on the painted edges of frescos found in a house in Region V of Pompeii in 2018. The frescos in question have medallion centers, hence the name of this motif. They are placed on both sides of a more detailed fresco with a central motif of Theseus leaving Ariadne, from whose borders I derived a previous motif I posted (https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1944511). It is believed that the frescos were painted by the workers from a workshop across the street from the house where the fresco was found. Since this fresco was excavated from Pompeii, we know it can date from no later than 79 AD.

Frescos were painted under extreme time pressure; workers had at most a few hours before the plaster dried too much to accept paint. Edging like this one was, therefore, applied rapidly with as few strokes as possible. I've done my best to keep the variation of stroke weight and placement, while also making it repeat nicely.

The original image material is a little under 250 pixels across, so it probably isn't good for very high resolution work. It upscales pretty well though. I've included both the original image material, set to repeat vertically, and a ribbon brush based on it. The original image material color can be changed with the layer color setting. The ribbon brush will change with your main color. As usual with my brushes, the tilt controls width and there is some slight pressure sensitivity too. It works best in vector mode so you can smooth out any awkward places.

Disabled and stuck in bed most of the time means I have a lot of time to learn to draw.
