Brushes and image material based on a Shang Dynasty taotie (饕餮) motif.
This material is based on the taotie (饕餮) motif from Shang Dynasty China, specifically on the decorative bronze axe currently held by the Met Museum, accession number 1985.214.24. It's listed as being from the 12th or 11th centuries BC, and has two beautiful taotie on each side.
The taotie motif shows up in a lot of the decorated bronze ware from this era. I thought this one would make a good repeating motif, useful for all sorts of decorations.
There are five image materials in the pack, with different default colors. They can be changed, of course. Because they are set to grayscale, the easy way to do that is to use the layer colors setting.
By default they are set to repeat horizontally so they can easily be used to decorate edges of things. That can be changed in the image material settings.
The fifth version is a smoothed one, which I thought could come in handy if anyone is trying to make something look like actual bronze ware.

There are also four ribbon brushes. As usual for my brushes, the tilt controls the width and there is a small amount of pressure sensitivity. I recommend using these on a vector layer so that you can remove any wobbles.

Here are some ideas for how you might use the brushes. I think they'd make a nice motif for clothing, but they're obviously perfect for objects you want to look "ancient".

This one took a lot of work, so I might eventually make it a paid material.
