painterly stones and pebbles brush

Are you painting a scene featuring lots of tiny rocks - a mountain slope, a river bank or a stony beach perhaps?

Here's a nifty little brush that will allow you to quickly and effectively fill your painting with a wide variety stones and pebbles.

Decrease particle density and adjust spacing to spray a few stones into every nook and cranny - or beef the settings up and create stone-filled river beds and landscapes filled with pebbles up to the horizon :)

The default brush has Particle Direction switched off - but you can switch it on, so pebbles easily follow the curves of the landscape for more realistic look:

The brush has Color Jitter enabled, so if you add a bit of color to your light and dark tones, you will add a bit of randomized color.

The brush is also a little crafty - if you reverse Main Color and Sub Color + 'Flip' the Brush Tip vertically - you will not get a negative image, but a new set of similar-looking stones:

2 brushes in 1! :)

You can mix 'default stones' and 'reverse stones', change sizes and colors and spacing to create a very varied and quite realistic effect.

I recommend changing the blending mode to 'Background' when filling in gaps between stones or painting front first and then filling the back.

You can control lighting somewhat if you switch off 'Random' option in 'Flip horizontal' menu - 'Off' for light to fall slightly from the left and 'Flip' for light to fall slightly from the right.

The brush has been crafted with painterly, semi-realistic and realistic illustrations in mind, but also looks nice if used on Monochrome layer with Border switched on.
