Fur is hard to paint realistically. When I looked in Assets, I couldn't find a free fur brush to fit my needs- so I made my own! With this brush, you don't need to worry about complicated color layering to create depth. Simply shade as you would normally, then apply this fur brush on top.
This brush behaves similarly to a blending tool, relying not on the currently selected color but on the colors already present on the canvas. To use this brush, first shade your animal or object as if it had a smooth surface. Then, following the contours of the object and the borders between different color areas, apply many controlled strokes from this brush to produce a fur effect. The example below shows how the finished effect might look when paired with different shading styles.
Shoutout to the YouTube channel Neytirix, whose tutorial on how to paint fur inspired me to make this brush. She uses SAI, so I wanted to figure out a way to replicate the same effect in Clip Studio Paint.
