Hatch & Line Pen

An inking pen to go from thick outlines to light hatching without switching tools.

An inking pen to go from thick outlines to light hatching without switching tools.

The pen has lots of width variation and stablizer variation, depending on how fast you draw or how much pressure you use.

Hard pressure and slow strokes will give you smooth, thick lines with increased stabilizer, to create clear outlines and bold shapes.  I used this kind of stroke for the chin and eyelashes, to achive clear definition in the shapes.

Light pressure and fast strokes, on the other hand, will decrease the stabilizer and produce a textured, hatching effect.  I used this kind of stroke in the hair and in the hollows between the eyebrows and eyes, to achieve a sense of texture and shadow.

Heavy pressure and fast strokes will produce thick lines without stabilizer, for very dark areas of shadow and intense texture.  I used this kind of stroke at the roots of the hair and in the eyebrows.

I have often ended up with a messy sketch I like and too-smooth lineart that  I don't like, so I created a pen to keep some of the texture from my sketches, even when I move to the lineart stage.  I like to jump around from thing to thing while inking, so if you're like me and can't wait long enough to switch tools when going from lining to hatching, this is the pen for you!

Happy lineart-ing!
