Sketching guidelines for hair can get difficult when sketching on one layer with a single color. This process of layering multiple strands with bright colors helps you to achieve drawing beautiful hair by creating contrasting visuals that clearly map out your sketch for the characters hair!
Simply sketch your lines with the darker of the two paired hues, then fill it in with the lighter color, as shown here on this sketch:
I find that starting the sketching of hair on a layer that's behind the body to create the back hair first, then working the way forward to drawing where the front bangs can shows the best results for me.
After sketching, lower the opacity of your work, and trace over the guidelines with the color you are using for your lineart to unite the sections into a lovely wig for your character. From there, continue on with your preferred method of coloring hair.
