This is a standalone, slightly pared down (it has less colors in total than the two combined Basics sets) version of the mixing palette from the Acrylic Basics Kit. It includes several primary and neutral hues of traditional acrylic paint specifically meant to be used for COLOR MIXING.
Yes, that manual thing you used to do with your childhood tempera paints to make various shades of funky green. It's a little tricky to master, but digital painting makes the skill much easier and affordable to learn (no more wasted paint tubes thank the universe), so go ahead and make all the weird greens you want, chances are you'll discover some cool new formulas for them.
Pro tips (I am absolutely not a pro at anything shh):
- Mix little dots of color at a time, using too much right off the bat can muddy your color and make it hard to get the hue you want.
- If you just can't get the color you want even after mixing in your whites/grays/blacks, swap to a different shade of your primaries. Or add an extra one in, who knows. I know for a fact that mixing a turquoise shade into your funky green immediately gives you a lovely foresty color... I'll let you know when I figure out how to mix a good turquoise.
I recommend using the color mixing palette in the CSP default subtools for blending, it's much smoother than doing it with brushes and automatically lets you add mixed colors to its little palette thing.
Have fun, and don't hurt yourself. This is a neat skill to work on, and it will help you develop your eye for color theory. But if it's really driving you nuts cause that green is looking mighty gross, there's plenty of tips online, all you gotta do is look.
