This is my attempt on combining the strengths of Onion Skin and Light Table Functions for efficient inbetweens. And actually just speeds up my general workflow of copying and pasting.

The Onion Layers Auto Action is designed to streamline your inbetween animation process by utilizing the benefits of both Clip Studio's Onion Skin and Light Table functions. This guide will walk you through the setup and usage of this automation.

Benefits of Onion Skin and Light Table Functions:

Onion Skin: Enables quick viewing of neighboring cells. Consider using a Key Command for even smoother workflow. Fast. But shown cells can't be moved or modified.

Light Table: Offers more control by allowing cell rotation, scaling, and frame selection. It mimics traditional animation techniques, but it can clutter your workspace.

The Challenge:

While Onion Skin is fast, it lacks rotation and shifting options for complex movements. Light Table provides mobility and control, but integrating it into your workflow can be challenging due to UI congestion.

The Solution:

The Onion Layers Auto Action bridges this gap, providing speed and flexibility.

Setup:

Ensure your existing frames are ordered according to your timeline. Use the Timeline options > "Edit Track" > "Rename in timeline order" to automatically arrange and name your layers if needed.

Create a new empty animation cell folder (it must be a folder, not a single layer) between your drawn cells.

Then run the action:

The action will duplicate neighboring cells as draft layers: "A Onion" and "B Onion".

Usage:

Animate your inbetween frame using the "Onion layers" as reference.

When done or no longer needed, use the second Auto Action to delete the "Onion layers".

Note:

If your existing keyframe cells are also folders, make sure to have them closed before starting.

Customization:

If you prefer different colors than the default blue and red for the "Onion layers", you can actually quite easily edit or recreate the Auto Action to suit your preferences.
