Large image makes it easier to resize to your liking and find parts of the image you may want to keep, easy to edit as well, not exactly designed to be the focal point of your piece but something in the background somewhere or some texture for some item/energy/painting/etc.
Turn to greyscale or use hue/sat sliders to get the color you want, use add glow + blurring effects to really emulate a Sun or the feel of something bright.
( works even better with fiery or electric looking brushes! )
