i wanted to create a pen that could make hatching happen with a little bit more control than i've gotten in some of the other hatching pens/brushes i've tried out. it feels a little less like cheating than using a normal hatching brush, but still alleviates some of the work of just manually hatching.
there's a slight jitter in the size, thickness, angle, gap, etc. i just think it makes it look a little more natural. but these can be altered in the brush settings if you don't like it. or even if you want to adjust them to your own personal taste.
i showed a few examples of how i like to use it. (normal pen on the left, hatching pen on the right.) it makes a really interesting texture for cross-hatching. and by swirling and scribbling with the opacity turned down a little, it can give an almost fuzzy texture.
